Scholarships for
College Seeking Students

It's a Game of Numbers!

With over 2 million scholarships for college seeking students, everyone can make a good go at finding enough college scholarships to pay a good portion of expenses.

No one is going to win every college scholarship that they apply for. With that in mind, if you follow the numbers, you’ll have an idea of how many scholarships you’ll need to apply for to meet your net cost.

It’s important to set the right expectation from the beginning so you understand how many scholarships you have the potential to win.

The "Rule of 8"

I recommend you follow the Rule of 8. On average you’ll win one scholarship for every 8 that you apply for. So in order to win 8 scholarships the rule says you need to apply for 80 different scholarships. We’ll show you many things you can do to greatly increase these odds.

Keep in mind this is only a general rule and could vary based on the types of college scholarships applied for, the financial need of the student and how well you qualified yourself for the scholarships you applied for.

DON'T MAKE THIS COMMON MISTAKE

Every year I see this common mistake being made by students. They put all their eggs in one basket by applying to only a few of the $10,000, $5,000 or $2,500 college student scholarships only to come up short and not win any of them.

They think that they only need to win one big one and they’ll be all set. Unfortunately they don’t hedge their bet by applying for a bunch of smaller local scholarships for which they have a better chance of winning.

It’s important to make sure you follow the “Rule of Diversification”. This will increase your chances of winning more scholarship money.

THE “RULE OF DIVERSIFICATION”College Scholarships

The “Rule of Diversification” says to apply for some of the larger and also more competitive scholarships but at the same time to focus on the less competitive scholarships that are less popular and have fewer applicants.

Many large scholarships get so much exposure that almost everyone applies for them. But the smaller hidden gems are the ones that’ll get you some real cash if you’re willing to work for it.

You’ll have a greater chance of winning 5 $1,000 scholarships than most $5,000 scholarships.

You can’t forget about all those wonderful $250 and $500 scholarships for college seeking students that are just waiting to be handed out. You win a handful of these and you’ll be well on your way to paying those college expenses.
